SMART Antenatal Care Guidelines | WHO has been released. This comprehensive WHO guideline provides global, evidence-informed recommendations on routine antenatal care. The guidance aims to capture the complex nature of the issues surrounding ANC health care practices and delivery and to prioritize person-centred health and well-being, not only the prevention of death and morbidity, in accordance with a human rights-based approach. This guideline is relevant to all pregnant women and adolescent girls receiving ANC in any healthcare or community setting and their unborn fetuses and newborns SMART’ stands for Standards-based, Machine-readable, Adaptive, Requirements-based, and Testable.
The new SMART Antenatal Care Guidelines aims to provide a common platform where all the guidelines , systematic reviews , tools , resources focused on ANC can be accessed.WHO envisions a future where everyone in the world benefits fully and immediately from clinical, public health, and data-use recommendations. SMART Guidelines are a new approach to systematize and accelerate the consistent application of recommended, life-saving interventions in the digital age.

IN future, SMART Guidelines for HIV, STIs, immunization, family planning, child health and humanitarian emergencies are in development and will be released later this year. SMART guidelines will be vital to digital health systems transformation, and attainment of universal health coverage and UN Sustainable Development Goals.
