Position Title: Head Nurse

Context:
Under the overall guidance of the Chief of Mission (CoM) and direct supervision of the Chief Migration Health Officer, the successful candidate will be responsible and accountable for implementation of the diverse migration health projects as well as COVID 19 pandemic response projects.
Under the direct supervision of the Chief Migration Health Officer (CMHO) and the Chief of Mission, IOM Nepal, for administrative matters, the incumbent will be responsible for organization and coordination of daily activities of the nursing and support personnel, involved in the Immigrants and the Resettlement Health Assessment Programmes. In particular she/he will:
Core Functions / Responsibilities:
- Assist CMHP in establishment of health assessment site and organization of the workflow in Kathmandu.
- Participate in training of national nurses and medical clerks.
- Maintain optimal operational flow of migrants at the health assessment site by adjusting assignments and staffing level to the schedules.
- Maintain optimal nursing and administrative staff flow governing, but not limit to, allocation to routine duties or particular ad hoc need, oversee staff leave planning and ensuring work handover.
- Ensure timely preparation of medical documents. Establish and maintain a monitoring system of medical document flow.
- Carry out Quality Control of Medical documents before dispatching to other respective units and immigration office.
- Notify CMHP, for actual and potential disruptions of the workflow and propose corrective measures.
- Supervise and assist the CHMO in evaluation of the performance of the nursing and administrative staff.
- Assist CMHO of logistics and documentation of referrals to external facilities.
- Assist CMHO in the supervision and coordination of logistics and documentation of follow up, treatment of the tuberculosis cases and contact management.
- Take part in the organization, supervision and implementation of vaccinations.
- Take part in pre-departure medical checks and perform medical escort duties, if necessary.
- Take part in Infectious Control and waste management.
- Coordinate with MHAC storekeeper to ensure the adequacy of medical expendables/equipment and prepare the list of item for procurement.
- Establish and supervise anti-fraud measures at all steps of the health assessments, including testing performed outside of the main health assessment site in Kathmandu.
- Assist and support the counselling pertains to Health Assessment services as required.
- Supervise nursing staff and provide the necessary administrations to immigrant who is required tuberculosis treatment including counselling, supervision of directly observed therapy (DOT), and monitoring treatment outcome.
- Ensure safekeeping and monitoring of vaccines and TB drug inventory; cold chain maintain, tracking of expiry date, coordinating with storekeeper and Senior Medical Admin Assistant to purchase on timely manner.
- Assist CMHO in preparing the draft of PD as well as in recruitment process of nursing and administrative staff when is required.
- Maintains close coordination/communication with all department/units to ensure continuity and collaboration of medical services.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisors.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from accredited Institute with 5 years of relevant work experience; or
- High School degree in Nursing with 7 years of relevant work experience.
- Valid license to practice Nursing in Nepal.
Experience/Skills
- Clinical work experience, preferably from a hospital setting.
- Experience in managerial/supervisory role.
- Experience working with migrants/refugee/mobile population will be an advantage.
- Maintains confidentiality and discretion in appropriate areas of work.
- Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, on-depth use of MS office applications data collection and manipulation.
- Teamwork oriented with capacity to work independently.
- High level of integrity. Ability to work with various clients under pressure.
Languages
Fluency in English, Nepali is required.
