Provincial Coordinators | Media and Communication Officer | ngo jobs AF 2023 : Advocacy Forum-Nepal (AF), a non-profit and non-governmental human rights organization,Advocacy Forum (AF) works to promote fair trials, prevention of torture, and access to justice for poor and marginalized people in Nepal. It works with a team of 100+ lawyers and human rights defenders that visit 57 police detention centres in Nepal, documenting the stories of detainees, how they are treated in detention and how their rights are observed. Lawyers also offer free legal assistance to those who can afford lawyers to defend themselves.International laws are also used to combat impunity in relations to the crimes of human rights violations and to empower victims to access avenues for justice at international level. This work also helps to put pressure at the national level for reform. AF is now representing the victims of torture, disappearances and sexual violence before the UN Human Rights Committee of the UN. It has been successful to lay down certain presidents already in number of cases

is looking for dynamic and result-oriented Nepali citizens for the following posts:

1. Provincial Coordinators (2)

Under the supervision of the Executive Director and Program Manager, Provincial Coordinators will be responsible for ensuring the effective implementation of AF’s project activities on human rights and the rule of law in respective provinces.

LOCATION: Madesh Province (Janakpur), Karnali Province (Surkhet).

QUALIFICATIONS for Provincial Coordinators | Media and Communication Officer | ngo jobs AF 2023

  • Master’s degree (preferably in law and human rights) with minimum 3 years’ experience managing a human rights and rule of law project (or Bachelor’s Degree, minimum 5 years’ relevant experience), 
  • Proficient knowledge of national and international law related to transitional justice, prevention of torture, and human rights,
  • Experience and a driven interest in research, report writing, and work on thematic issues,
  • Proficient knowledge and analytical skills on the current human rights and political context and emerging human rights and rule of law issues at the Federal and Provincial level,
  • Liaison and coordination with government authorities, partner organizations, and stakeholders is an advantage,
  • Adept command of written and spoken English,
  • Capability to work under pressure in a diverse group,
  • Aptitude in translating and editing legal documents (English to Nepali and vice versa)
  • Flexible working hours,
  • Proficient computer skills.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Regular visits to government detention facilities, provide legal counselling to the detainees and provide legal assistance to the needy detainees,
  • Interviewing and attending to victims and their family members, ensuring systematic documentation and archiving of cases of human rights violations and conducting the necessary intervention,
  • Updating and managing the information on detainees and the cases of human rights violations,
  • Developing strategies for strategic litigation and campaigning on emblematic cases,
  • Drafting court cases and writ petitions and providing legal assistance to indigent victims,
  • Planning and implementation of the project activities,
  • Assisting the AF team in project-related publication and research work,
  • Identifying and liaising with concerned stakeholders and other human rights organizations,
  • Providing logistical support during training, stakeholder meetings and meetings of office programs,
  • Developing the content and modality of consultation with stakeholders,
  • Representing AF in the provinces, 
  • Other tasks assigned by AF.

2. Media and Communication Officer (1)

LOCATION: Kathmandu, Head Office

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in Media Studies, Journalism and Communications,
  • At least 2 years’ relevant experience at the national or international in media and communications and advocacy work,
  • Proficient knowledge and analytical skills on the current human rights and political context and emerging human rights and rule of law issues at local, Provincial and Federal level,
  • Aptitude in translating and editing documents (English to Nepali and vice versa),
  • Experience in the usage of computers, office software packages and design tools; good knowledge and experience in handling web-based management systems,
  • Excellent writing skills, preferably with experience in writing feature articles, creative in both written and visual medium,
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills,
  • Have a strong established network and/or linkages with media,
  • Excellent command of English and Nepali in both speaking and writing.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Lead AF’s media and communications strategy and action plan,
  • Manage and direct publicity arrangements that promote/support its programmes and activities,
  • Develop media communication products and press materials for awareness-raising, including drafting of media/press briefings and releases, distribution to the target groups, 
  • Effectively liaise/network with a group of core media personnel and journalists, 
  • Maintenance of close contacts with national and international media, government officials, multilateral and bilateral donors, civil society and authorities concerned, 
  • Regular updateson social networking sites including Facebook, Twitter, and other similar community sites,
  • Manage social media campaigns and day-to-day activities, including online advocacy, writing editorials, outreach efforts, promotions, etc,
  • Other tasks assigned by AF.

The Social Media and Communication Officer acts as a centre of expertise on social media at AF, providing training, advice and guidance to colleagues across the office.Fresh graduates are encouraged to apply.

Remuneration for all positions is negotiable (based on relevant experience and qualification of the candidate).

Contract duration for all positions is initially 1 year, with the possibility of a performance-based extension.
