Mission and objectives
KOSHISH is a non governmental and, non profit organization which is working in the field of mental health and psychosocial well being in Nepal. The word “KOSHISH” means “making an effort.” KOSHISH follows a right based advocacy and direct holistic mental health services for the persons with the mental health/psychosocial disability. KOSHISH is affiliated with, Social Welfare Council of Nepal (Affiliation No 25676 ) and registered in District Administration Office, Kathmandu (Registration No. 086/065 ) since 2008. Ever since, KOSHISH has been promoting self advocacy in the areas of mental health & psychosocial disabilities. It works in line with the UN Convention on the Rights of the persons with disability,(CRPD) 2006 by virtue of which the people with mental health & psychosocial disability have a wholesome right to live independently and being included in the community as equal basis with others. For this, it provides capacity building including awareness on fundamental rights to such people . KOSHISH is advocating for abolishment of the discriminatory legal practices against such persons and is attempting to create model peer support based mental health & psychosocial well being program inthe grass root of the communities as a long run strategy. This model can be replicated by the Government in Nepal. We are focussing on the motto “no one left behind” as everyone`s life is so precious. the right to get mental health support is not a luxury but necessity like drinking water, food and shelter. We are trying to integrate the mental health services into health as also beyond the health system, i.e. in the human rights, gender. education disability and so on…. our approach is to work towards inclusion rather than creating a parallel
