Air pollution is the presence of substances in the atmosphere that are harmful to the health of humans and other living beings, or cause damage to the climate or to materials Air Pollution is a major risk factor for public health. Long-term health effects from air pollution include heart disease, lung cancer, and respiratory diseases such as emphysema. Air pollution can also cause long-term damage to people’s nerves, brain, kidneys, liver, and other organs. About Event of Science Policy Dialogue on Health Impacts of Air Pollution |WHO

Realizing that air pollution is a major risk factor for public health, as part of the Urban Health Initiative (UHI), Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), Department of Environment (DoE), World Health Organization (WHO) and Clean Energy Nepal (CEN) are organizing a series of Science Policy Dialogues. The first four in this series focused on the health impacts of air pollution caused by household energy, transportation, solid waste and brick kilns sectors. The final part of this series will a dialogue among health practitioners and policy makers on various aspects of health impacts of air pollution in Nepal and explore ways in which the health sector can contribute towards clean air.

• To share the key findings of UHI and sectoral policy dialogues on air pollution and health,
• To discuss on possible steps that the health sector can take to address air pollution
• To raise awareness on health implication of air pollution among stakeholders
