Updated Nepal National Immunization Schedule: The National Immunization Programme (NIP) stands as a Priority 1 (P1) initiative of the Government of Nepal, initially launched as the Expanded Programme on Immunization in 2034 BS (1977/78). The latest updated National Immunization schedule of Nepal (2024) reflects the ongoing commitment to safeguarding public health through immunization. Previously, eleven antigens were provided through the national programme, administered to eligible infants, children, and mothers across more than 16,000 outreach sessions. These sessions aimed to reach geographically and economically hard-to-reach and marginalized communities. As part of continuous efforts to enhance public health outcomes, the government has expanded the programme to include additional antigens targeting the prevention of diarrhea caused by rotavirus and FIPV.
Vaccine-preventable diseases are infectious illnesses that can be effectively prevented through vaccination. These diseases, such as measles, polio, influenza, and hepatitis, are caused by viruses or bacteria and can lead to serious health complications, including hospitalization and death. Vaccines work by stimulating the immune system to produce antibodies against specific pathogens, providing immunity to the disease without causing the illness itself. Through widespread vaccination efforts, many vaccine-preventable diseases have been significantly reduced or eliminated in many parts of the world. Vaccines play a crucial role in protecting individuals and communities from the spread of infectious diseases, saving lives and reducing healthcare costs.In conclusion, vaccination remains one of the most effective public health interventions for preventing the spread of infectious diseases and protecting individuals of all ages from vaccine-preventable illnesses. The widespread availability and administration of vaccines have led to significant reductions in morbidity and mortality rates associated with these diseases worldwide. However, to sustain these achievements and ensure continued protection, it is imperative to maintain high vaccination coverage rates, address vaccine hesitancy, and invest in vaccination programs and infrastructure. By prioritizing vaccination as a cornerstone of public health, we can work towards the ultimate goal of eradicating vaccine-preventable diseases and creating healthier communities for generations to come.
